You connected a calendar, you asked Otto to add the gig to it, and the app said the connection is read only. Then you went to change the access dial to Read & write and found it greyed out. Here is the honest answer rather than the hopeful one.
The dial is not the problem
It is not greyed because of a permission you are missing. The calendar connection in Booked Solid has no write side at all. It ships with exactly two calendar tools: one shows Otto what is coming up, and the other checks whether a given date is free. There is no create, no move and no delete, at any permission level.
Setting the dial to Read & write would hand Otto nothing new, so the app holds it shut rather than letting you switch on something imaginary.
What you do get: the clash check
Otto reads the calendars you added under Connections > Mail & calendars in the background, and he will not put a date in front of you that collides with something already there. Placing the confirmed gig on the calendar is still your click.
While you are in there, check how the calendar was added
Under Connections > Mail & calendars, look at the route your calendar came in on. Calendar feed (ICS link) is the right choice for Google Calendar, and a private calendar sign-in (CalDAV) is the one for iCloud. On a Mac you can also use Calendar app on this Mac. Those are the ones Otto reads.
Tag your gig calendar bookings when you add it. That tag is what powers the clash check, so a personal calendar tagged personal still keeps you from double booking your own weekend without being treated as a source of gigs.
If you want the event created for you today
A live chat on claude.ai with Google Calendar linked there can create the event. That is Claude's own connector though, not ours, and Otto cannot reach it during his background shifts, so it is a manual route rather than something Autopilot can do.
Good to know
Calendar writing is on the list as a real request rather than a maybe. There is no date for it, and we would rather not invent one you would hold us to.
