Drag and drop files into a task

You can drag a file or a folder straight from your computer into Booked Solid OS and hand it to Otto as a reference. This is the quick way to point Otto at a contract, a rider, a spreadsheet of leads, or a whole folder without typing out where it lives.

Where to drop it

Drop the file anywhere inside the Booked Solid OS window. It attaches to the task tab you have open at that moment, so open the task you want to work in first, then drag your file in. While you are dragging over the window, the app shows a drop area labeled Drop it here so you know it is ready to catch the file.

How to do it

  1. Open the task where you want to use the file.
  2. Drag the file or folder from your desktop, Finder, or File Explorer.
  3. Drop it anywhere on the Booked Solid OS window.
  4. The location gets added to your chat box under Use this file or folder: (or Use these files or folders: if you dropped more than one).
  5. Add any words of your own, then press Send.

What gets added, and what Otto does with it

Dropping a file adds its location to your draft as plain text. Nothing uploads and nothing sends on its own. The file stays on your computer, and Otto only sees it after you press Send. When you send, Otto reads the file from that location and uses it as a reference for whatever you asked.

You can drop any file or any folder. Drop several at once and each one gets listed on its own line. If you drop the same thing twice, it is only listed once.

Good to know

  • The dropped location lands in your chat box but is never sent automatically. You always press Send yourself.
  • If you already had words typed in the box, the file location is added below them, so your draft is not wiped out.
  • Drag and drop works once you are signed in to Booked Solid and Otto is installed and set up. If Otto is not ready yet, dropping a file does nothing, so finish setting up Otto first, then try again.
